What Alcohol Actually Does to Skin

Alcohol is a solvent. On skin, it strips natural oils, which is exactly why it evaporates so quickly and gives that sharp initial “burst” of fragrance. That’s not a modern reformulation — it’s simply how attar has always been made, for over a thousand years, long before alcohol-based perfumery existed at all.

A Gentler Way to Wear Fragrance Daily

Because there’s no alcohol drying out the skin, attar can actually be worn daily, even on skin that reacts badly to spray perfume. Many people who’ve given up on wearing fragrance altogether because of sensitivity find that attar doesn’t trigger the same reaction — not because it’s “hypoallergenic” in a clinical sense, but simply because the harshest ingredient in most perfumes was never part of the formula to begin with.

What to Look For

If you’re fragrance-sensitive, look specifically for products labelled attar or alcohol-free perfume oil, not just “natural” or “light” perfume — those terms aren’t regulated and don’t guarantee an alcohol-free formula.
